Pug × Beagle — a friendly, social, food-obsessed little dog with a longer muzzle than a pure Pug. The Beagle side brings energy and a strong nose; the Pug side brings affection and a calmer indoor nature.

Puggle temperament

Very social, extremely food-motivated, and prone to following scents if off-lead. Generally good with kids and other dogs. Moderate barking tendency — Beagles bay, and Puggles often inherit this at reduced volume.

What each parent contributes

From the Pug

Pug: affectionate nature, social with strangers, calm indoors

From the Beagle

Beagle: longer muzzle (better breathing), strong nose, playful energy

Watch out for:

Training a Puggle

Food rewards work brilliantly — but portion-control treats strictly or weight explodes. Recall training matters more than with most breeds because the Beagle nose will override you. Never trust a Puggle off-lead near wildlife or food smells.

Common Puggle health issues

Insurance note: Moderate premiums. Obesity-related issues are the dominant claim category — and many insurers exclude conditions they determine are weight-related, so keep the dog at healthy weight or risk claim rejection.

Feeding and food costs

Budget roughly $50 – $80 per month on quality kibble for an adult Puggle. Premium kibble (Black Hawk, Advance, Hill's) sits at the upper end; super-premium (Ziwi, Acana, Orijen) pushes higher. Frequently asked questions

Do Puggles have breathing problems?

Less than Pugs but more than Beagles. Their intermediate muzzle is a major improvement over pure Pugs for heat tolerance and exercise capacity.

Are Puggles good with kids?

Yes — friendly, social, and not too fragile. Their food motivation means they can be pushy around food if not trained.

How loud are Puggles?

Less than Beagles but still vocal — they often bay when excited or alerting. Not ideal for shared walls unless you commit to training quiet.
